Latinos in SLO County

 Latinos in the US
The Latino Population Understanding the Latino Population The need for Latino advocacy and support is great.
The Latino Outreach Council is working toward increasing the level of participation of Latinos in order to make them full participants in the community. 2000 Latino Population SLO County 16.3% North County 16.1% North Coast 11.0% City of San Luis Obispo 14.1% South County 20.9% Latinos comprise 16.3% of the population of San Luis Obispo County, yet they are clearly at a substantial social and economic disadvantage when compared to the rest of the population.
Their level of participation in decision-making processes is also lacking.

The following factors are considered in addressing the needs of the Latino population:

• Latinos are a diverse segment of the population, especially when considering educational attainment, language dominance, and household income.
• Latinos are optimistic about the future and committed to self-help. They strive to be contributors.
• Latinos are established residents. They perceive themselves as permanent residents of the county
